Double Rainbow

Double rainbow on Ocean Road Beach, Bridgehampton, NYNormal morning walk. Nothing special.  Looked to the rising sun, turned around, and faced with a glorious double rainbow.

There’s so much we can control, and there’s so much we can’t.  And yet, there are times when we are surprised, filled with all the beauty the universe can provide, and if we are ready, in the right place at just the right time, we are gifted with rainbows, shooting stars, an unexpected smile from someone cute across the bus, or a mother cat, cuddling her young.  Every day, if your’re ready, if you’re watching, miracles will come to you.

Believe the universe is conspiring in your favor, and if you just let go and allow yourself to join the dance of life, you will be gifted with inspiration, creativity, opportunities and gifts beyond the scope of your present imagination.  You just have to be ready.

I live in Lynn, MA.  Granted, we live right on the ocean, overlook beautiful Nahant and can see the Boston skyline on clear days.  Lynn is the subject of many bad jokes.  I’m often teased about living here.  Three double rainbows have occurred over the years.  Even Lynn becomes magical when this happens.  Your photo is beautiful.  Barbara

Thank you, Barbara, although I don’t understand why anyone would make fun of Lynn. Believe me, miracles happen in your sweet town every day.

A few years ago I read James Michener’s novel, Chesapeake, in which he described the lives of people who had, for generations, lived near the marsh. One character in the story is an especially energic boy, 13-year-old Chris Pflaum. Just before summer break, which he was eaglerly looking forward to, the teacher read to the class, a poem by Sidney Lanier.

    As the marsh-hen secretly builds
    on the watery sod,
Behold I will build me a nest,
    on the greatness of God:
I will fly in the greatness of God
    as the marsh-hen flies
In the freedom that fills all the space
‘twixt the marsh and the skies.

Recalling this poem as his grew up, Chris committed his time and energy to preserve the precious wetlands and wildlife he loved. Likewise, we ought to be inspired by Lanier’s words as we consider the beauty of the earth and skies around us. Indeed, nature is the springboard of praise to the Creator.
